The three-day Source of the Nile Women in Agribusiness Expo and Investment Summit gets under way this Sunday (January 14) and will end on Tuesday.
Women from different agribusiness value chains will have investment pitching interactions with private sector investors and local companies.
The summit is themed around investing in opportunities for advancing the status of women farmers in Africa.
On Thursday, Dr. Anna Rose Ademun Okurut, the agriculture ministry’s commissioner for animal health, said that during the meeting, women will also highlight the policies needed by women in agribusiness to thrive.
Dr Paulina Chiwangu, the UN Women country representative, attended that media briefing.
It is hoped the upcoming summit will create an opportunity for women to explore the potential of regional and international trading networks and gender equality for more opportunities in agri-business.
Women-owned and women-led agribusinesses to be showcased during expo are mainly into value addition and agro processing, managed by both young and older women entrepreneurs.
The summit will run on the sidelines of the 19the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which gets under way on Monday at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.
Heads of state and government and delegations from about 150 countries are expected to attend the NAM meeting, which is themed ‘Deepening co-operation for shared global affluence’.
On the agenda will be discussions on several issues affecting member countries, climate change.
Vincent Bagiire, the foreign affairs permanent secretary, said also to be discussed will be solutions to address pressing global issues and foster co-operation among member nations.
