While many children dream of doing white-collar jobs such as being doctors and lawyers, others are working hard to become successful farmers thanks to their passion for agriculture.

They give up the comfort of their urban homes in the holidays and choose to spend time at the farm.

One such is Amaani Kabuchu 11. To him, farmers are a big society and farming is an enjoyable activity. While at the farm, he admires how matooke grows into big bunches. He also enjoys playing with the goats and harvesting coffee.

“I aspire to become an aerospace engineer and renowned farmer,” he says.

On the other hand, Lilian Kiconco loves growing fruit trees like mangoes, oranges and apples.

“Children should love farming since they can get money from it. They should also plant more trees,” she says.

Kiconco envisions starting a company called Akon’s and has already crafted its logo. She aspires to become a lawyer, farmer and mathematician.

On the other hand, Mukisa Bakadde Kiwanuka 10 loves hydroponic farming because it doesn’t need soil.

“I want to become a lawyer and famer because it feels nice. I will grow lettuce, cabbage, pineapples and apples and supply to restaurants,” he envisions adding; “Children should farm to save on buying food.”

More to that, Annabel Aitasi 7 and her sister Abigail Letasi 10, from Uganda Martyrs Nursery and Primary school love farming because it teaches them a lot about animals and plants.

Aitasi loves piggery and fish farming while Letasi dreams of investing in poultry like her father who also grows sugarcane and maize.

“Farming is easy yet you harvest much,” she says.
