Parts of northern Uganda should expect light rains, according to the weekly weather forecast for the Greater Horn of Africa released by ICPAC on August 14.
ICPAC operates under the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which is a regional body to which Uganda subscribes as a member.
IGAD’s ICPAC is a Climate Centre accredited by the World Meteorological Organisation that provides climate services to 11 East African countries including Uganda. The services offered by ICPAC aim at creating resilience in a region deeply affected by climate change and extreme weather.
“Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over Somalia, Djibouti, southern Ethiopia, central to western Kenya and central to northern Uganda,” ICPAC weekly forecast for August 15-22, 2023, says.
South-Western Uganda should expect moderate rain between 50 and 200 mm, according to the weather forecast.
Light rains in northeastern Uganda
While the fortunes of the population in southwestern Uganda are likely to change for the better in the coming days, less than 50 mm of rain is expected in parts of south-eastern to northeastern Uganda. This is referred to as light rains by ICPAC weekly forecast report.
Moderate temperature
Temperature is predicted to be moderate in northern Uganda and other parts of the Greater Horn of Africa. Moderate to high temperatures (20-32℃) expected over South Sudan, central to southern Sudan, eastern and northern Kenya, central to northern Uganda, north-western and southern Tanzania, Somalia, and south-eastern Ethiopia.
