The Commandant National Defense College – Uganda (NDC-U) Maj Gen Francis Okello has re-echoed the call for the mechanisation of agriculture as a means of boasting  food in Uganda both for local consumption and export given that agriculture is the backbone of Uganda.

The army in a statement released on Tuesday November 7, 2023 said Maj. Gen. Okello made the remarks at Musubi Avocado Farm, Uganda’s leading Avocado growing and producing farm in Uganda that is located in Mayuge District where he lead a team of course participants from NDC-U who are on a domestic study tour.

“The President and Commander-in-Chief H.E Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has always emphasized on mechanisation of agriculture for better yields and increased production for both consumption and commercial purposes as opposed to subsistence farming. It’s therefore incumbent up on us as leaders to come up with a better strategy to ensure this comes to reality,” said Maj Gen Okello.

He said that Musubi farm was chosen as a case study to enable course participants have an appreciation of reality to conduct research and come up with a better strategy for implementation.

On Monday November 6, 2023, NDC-U commenced a 12 day domestic study tour across the country for course participants. The team will cover parts of Eastern, Northern, Central and Western Uganda.
