TUNISIA – “If we don’t have water, we will lose our agriculture, our trees and our livestock”, warns Lofti Atyaoui, a Tunisian farmer who relies on treated wastewater to irrigate his crops as Tunisia invests in water treatment and desalination plants to combat water shortages. Despite criticism for its high energy consumption, Tunisia is building a new seawater desalination plant in the south, which local CEO says is “the only solution for the MENA region”.
