Trees in a home are very important because they add beauty and value to a home’s landscape.
They act as wind-breakers, provide shade, shelter and some bear fruits. This is the reason why home owners make an effort of planting them in their compounds.
Diana Mbabaali, a backyard gardener, says trees contribute to the environment by providing oxygen that we breathe in.
“The oxygen is produced during the process of photosynthesis when the plants are taking in carbon dioxide that we breathe out. This improves the quality of air, conserving water and preserving soil,” Mbabaali says.
She says that although trees are needed in a home, homeowners are advised to go for the right species and plant them in the right spot not to affect the house structure.
Trees you shouldn’t plant near your house and why
The types of trees that one should not plant near his or her house include; avocado, jack fruit, start fruit , mango tree, cotton wood, weeping willow, tree heaven, white ash, poplar and American elm.
John Kisekka, a landscaper says that no homeowner wants a compound without trees because some bear fruits.
However, he says that some fruit trees are very dangerous especially if planted close to the house or a perimeter wall.
“These trees have very deep and strong roots that can slowly access the foundation of your house and damage it,” Kisekka says.
He advises that if a homeowner cannot have a compound without such trees, he or she can plant them but not near the any structure.
“Some trees throw leaves all the time in the compound which gives you headache to clean,” he adds.
