Joseph Bukenya, a vegetable farmer in Kabuwomero village in Luwero district gives some tips.
-It grows well on well-drained sandy loam soils, spacing should be 45cm by 70cm between rows and the holes should be 20mm deep.
-Transplanting should be done after 30 to 40 days of planting the seeds in the nursery bed.
-It is always better to use organic manure, but NPK fertiliser can be applied before planting. Another two or three NPK fertilizer dressing is also applied later for good head formation.
-Young crops should be kept free of weeds
-Mulching is also recommended for good growth
-The plant requires a regular water supply throughout the growing season and harvesting should be done after the rainy season.
