It is important for every farmer to control ticks on his or her farm.
This can be done by plunge dipping the livestock to control parasites that live more or less fixed to the animal.
A plunge dip is a concrete pit that allows to completely immerses livestock in a liquid that contains a parasiticide. Many of the plunge dips meant for cattle and sheep are made of concrete.
Plunge dipping is one of the most efficient and economic methods for periodically treating large numbers of animals against ticks, flies, mites, lice and other external parasites.
The pre-diluted solution is emptied along the dip already filled with water. Then the dip wash has to be stirred to ensure proper mixing of the product.
It is also recommended to use the first 15 to 30 animals that go through the dip as stirrer animals. Afterwards, they should be dipped again at the end.
However, pregnant animals, calves, lambs and weak animals should be dipped separately from livestock or not be dipped at all, but treated separately with less stressing methods.
