The Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) in partnership with Africa 21 recently launched the PARM Stories Challenge.

Here, the best stories about innovative rural farmers will be recognized and rewarded.

In that regard, journalists and media professionals are called upon to create compelling documentary-style videos.

These videos should highlight stories of rural farmers, who have developed innovative initiatives to manage agricultural risks.

Special attention should be put on women, youth and other vulnerable groups.

The challenge is part of the celebration of World Food Day and the International Day of Rural Women.

Dorcas Mayala Ntumba, the Knowledge Management, Communications and Partnership Specialist says, PARM Stories Challenge aims to highlight the special contribution of smallholder farmers who face multiple risks, yet they produce one-third of the world’s food.

Meanwhile, the video should explore the challenges these farmers face, their innovative solutions, and the positive impact of their initiatives on their productivity.

More to that, it should also explore the sustainability of agri-food systems in the farmers’ community or beyond.

The first winner will enjoy a field visit in one or more operational countries of PARM/IFAD to gain direct experience of the activities of the United Nations in agricultural risk management.

In addition, the first three winning videos and journalists will also be presented during an international event. The deadline for submission is November 18, 2023.

PARM is a global partnership on agricultural risk management for development.

The Platform provides technical support to governments for the integration of agricultural risk management into policies, institutional capacities, and investments, to move from a culture that copes with disasters towards smart, gender-sensitive risk management.

On the other hand, Africa 21 is a network that brings together over 700 African journalists from 40 countries with expertise in development topics. It also offers a platform for exchange between media practitioners and researchers.
