Uganda should expect wetter than usual conditions, according to the weekly rainfall forecast for October 10–17, 2023, released by ICPAC.
“Wetter than usual conditions are expected over southern Ethiopia, northern and south-eastern South Sudan, most parts of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, northern Tanzania, and most parts of Somalia,” stated ICPAC.
ICPAC is the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre, which networks with national meteorological bodies, including the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA).
Moderate to high temperature
While Uganda should expect wetter than usual conditions, the rainfall is expected to moderate (50–200 mm).
“Moderate rainfall (50–200 mm) is expected over Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, most parts of South Sudan, Somalia, parts of north-western Tanzania, central to southern Ethiopia, and western Kenya,” stated ICPAC.
The temperatures are also expected to be warmer than usual. “Moderate to high temperatures (20–32 °C) are expected over most parts of Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, and northern and eastern Kenya,” stated ICPAC.
Look out for updates
Dr Bob Ogwang, who is the acting executive director of the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA), said the onset was already established in different parts of the country.
“We also encourage the population to look out for monthly updates as well as the 10-day weather statements,” he said.
