The National Forestry Resources Research Institute at Mukono (NaFORRI), exhibited products made from bamboo as a way of promoting the growth of the plant, as part of agro-forestry.
This was at the 2024 Harvest Money expo.
Juventine Boaz Odoi, one of the experts at NaFORRI, explains that they are making products, such as bangles, handbags, mats, key holders, cups, flasks, match-sticks, charcoal and flow tiles, which are beautiful and healthy.
He adds that among NaFORRI’s goals is to use technology to make more products from bamboo that can be sold globally like it is done in China.
Phiona Adyero, who also works with NaFORRI, explains that from one bamboo tree, one can earn over sh500,000 according to their innovativeness.
She says products start from sh5,000. For example, key holders go for sh5,000, wallets for sh10,000, cups for sh15,000 and spoons for sh5,000.
