As the rainfall belt shifts from the southern hemisphere into the northern hemisphere, Uganda should expect drier conditions to prevail over most parts of the country in the week of June 13-20, 2023, according to ICPAC.
“Drier than usual conditions expected over most parts of Uganda, western Kenya, much of South Sudan, and parts of central to western Ethiopia,” stated ICPAC.
ICPAC is a Climate Center accredited by the World Meteorological Organization that provides Climate Services to 11 East African Countries. The services offered by ICPAC aim at creating resilience in a region deeply affected by climate change and extreme weather.
ICPAC operates under the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which is a regional body to which Uganda subscribes as a member.
Also, isolated parts of the Greater Horn of Africa should expect moderate rainfall. “Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over isolated parts of southern Sudan, most parts of South Sudan, western Ethiopia, western Eritrea, northern Uganda, and a few places in western Kenya,” stated ICPAC.
ICPAC has also predicted light rainfall in parts of central and southern Uganda. “Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over southern to central Sudan, isolated areas in south-eastern South Sudan, central parts of Ethiopia, northern and southern Somalia, eastern and southern Tanzania, coastal and western Kenya, and central to southern Uganda.”
Mean Temperature
According to the weekly weather forecast, most parts of the region including Uganda should expect favourable temperatures.
· Moderate to high temperatures (20 – 32℃) expected over South Sudan, eastern and northern Kenya, western and eastern Tanzania, Somalia, south-eastern Ethiopia, and central to northern Uganda.
· Mild conditions (less than 20℃) expected over central Ethiopia, southern Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, parts of southern, central to northern Tanzania, and central to western Kenya.
