Masindi district is set to host the 10th Agri-business Expo scheduled for Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25, at Kihonda Demonstration Farm which is located about 15kms out of Masindi town.
Organised by the Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) and Masindi district local government, the expo will be the eighth (8th) in Masindi following the first two that were hosted by Kasese and Mbale districts.
This year’s expo will be hosted under the theme; “Agro-industrialisation as a tool to sustainable farm income amidst changing climates.”
Pausta Clessy Nuwagaba, the Structured Trading Systems Officer at EAGC said, about 80 exhibitors are expected including suppliers of agricultural equipment, machinery, agrochemicals, financial institutions, insurance, research institutions, private sector, development partners, government agencies and ministries.
“The focus is on climate change because we would like farmers to continue feeding the country but also make money. We are, therefore, bringing on board technologies such as mechanisation and irrigation which can help farmers adapt to the effects of climate change,” Nuwagaba said.
Fred Ssebuguzi, the District Production Officer (DPO) for Masindi said many farmers got affected by the lockdown.
“We call upon them to come and learn new techniques of keeping afloat in the farming business because many exhibitors will be sharing experience and knowledge necessary to overcome climate change effects which affected most of our farmers the past two years,” Ssebuguzi said.
