“The manure of the farm is the foot of the farmer,” Anthony Mateega says, to mean that the physical presence of the farmer matters a lot in the success of the venture.
Mateega, 50, works with Statewide Insurance Company Limited as an underwriting manager, but above all, he is an accomplished farmer.
Mateega is the CEO of St Joseph Agro Business Enterprise Mannyogaseka, which is located in Muduma sub-county Mpigi district. He started the agribusiness venture seven years ago.
There are several enterprises done at the farm which include poultry, banana planting, dairy farming, fruits farming, coffee farming, and horticulture.

Mateega has managed to archive big from his 50 acres of land which is located in a place that is predominantly known to be semi-arid and was land that was avoided by almost everyone who visited the area.
Mateega’s enterprise has had a far-reaching impact on the people living in this community, such as creating jobs for youth around the area and also encouraging the residents to embrace agriculture.
Mateega was the Vision Group Best Farmer for 2019.
