The price of maize in Kisenyi in Kampala on Thursday (June 23) had hit sh2,400 per kilogram.
Moses Mutumba, a maize dealer and miller in Kisenyi said the prices were exorbitantly hiked.
Patrick Lukwana another maize dealer and a member of the Kisenyi Millers Association said the demand for maize in the local and regional markets is increasing.
He said in the forthcoming harvest season they expect less maize on the market due to the dry spell that affected some maize growing areas.
“Maize farmers need to be empowered through acquisition of cost-effective irrigation pumps to deal with unexpected dry
spell,” he said.
