Pineapple mealy bugs are ash-pink oval insects normally found on stem and leaves. The pineapple mealybug is found in all pineapple growing areas.
It attacks roots, stem, leaves, flowers and the fruit. While feeding, mealy bugs may transmit the pineapple wilt disease. This is why they have to be controlled whenever they appear in the farm.
The visible effects of pineapple wilt include red and yellow leaves, curled leaf edges, stunted growth and small fruits. To control them, you can spray with soapy water on the leaves.
You can use any liquid detergent soap at a rate of one-litre for 20 litres of water or spray with an insecticide like nimbecidine, neem extractive oil or neem oil.
