The much-anticipated ninth edition of the Harvest Money Expo is not just about agricultural insights, but also a second chance for those looking to transition into farming after retirement.

The event that began on February 14th to the 15th provides a platform for learning, networking, and discovering new opportunities in agribusiness.

Gates opened to farming enthusiasts, including retirees and soon-to-be retirees, flocking to the event to explore how agriculture can be a viable post-retirement plan.

For some, like Zainab Chelimo Musila, a public servant nearing retirement, the expo is a gateway to a new career. She travelled from Arua with the goal of learning about farming as a second career or backup plan.

“I am growing old, and in two years, I will retire. So, I came here to explore a second opportunity—a Plan B,” she said. Musila is particularly interested in learning about mixed farming, specifically integrating coffee and banana cultivation.

“I want to learn more about how I can practice mixed farming, especially with bananas and coffee,” she added.

Similarly, Oleti Joseph Andima, who has already retired from public service, is now venturing into agribusiness. However, he wants to do it the right way by acquiring the necessary knowledge.

“I travelled all the way from Arua, and I plan to spend three days here attending all the training sessions and networking with experts,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aloysius Muhangi has returned to the expo after three years, grateful for the knowledge he gained in 2019. “I learnt a lot about pig farming in 2019. I went back and started a thriving farm, but unfortunately, my animals died,” he shared.

Muhangi is back at the expo to gain deeper insights and ensure he avoids the mistakes that led to his previous losses.

For retirees and those planning for life after employment, the Harvest Money Expo presents a golden opportunity to transition into farming successfully. Don’t miss out—make your way to the expo grounds and discover how agriculture can secure your future.

This year’s expo is being sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda, Engineering Solutions Ltd. (Engsol), K-ROMA (Bella Wine), Tunga Nutrition, Uganda Development Corporation (UDC), Pepsi Cola, and aBi Development.
