KAMPALA – Farmers attending the 2025 Harvest Money Expo are yet again on a journey to acquire more knowledge and skills to turn their farms into profitable ventures.

Beekeeping, avocado farming, piggery, and chicken farming are at the top of the list of interests for farmers attending the expo currently happening at the Mandela National Stadium.

“It is my first time at the expo, and I expect to learn a lot about piggery business, learn how to fatten my pigs better, and learn better feeding practices so that I can produce better quality products for my target market,” disclosed Catherine Nabatta, piggery and poultry farming. Catherine has over 250 pigs on her farm and over 500 poultry.

“I expect to produce better and earn better. My earnings have not been bad, but the size of the pigs we have at the farms isn’t what we want; we want something better,” she disclosed.

Just like Nabatta, Jane Nansubuga is attending the harvest money expo for the very first time. She is into poultry keeping.

“So far I know nothing. I have been keeping local chickens. They do not need much attention, but now I want to go deep and learn how to feed the chicks, how to produce good quality products, and at the end of it all, I want to get good yields so that I can get good money.

Alex Biryomumisho attended the 2024 expo as an exhibitor; this time he is back as an attendee eager to learn more about banana farming.

“I want to increase my knowledge and skills on how to make bananas (matooke) grow really fast and also how to apply manure. There are many methods, and I want to learn the best,” says Biryomumisho, who is currently the manager at Griveria Farm in Bweyale, Kiryandongo district.

Jonathan Omalla from Tororo district in eastern Uganda has also developed an interest in farming, and he has been laying out strategies to invest in and profit from it. “This is my opportunity to get more knowledge about farming and engage in profitable agribusiness.

“So far I have learnt the concept of engaging in HASS avocado growing and, at the same time, beekeeping on the same farm,” revealed Omalla, who was among the first people to show up for the Harvest Money Expo 2025.

The ninth edition of the Harvest Money Expo, happening at the Mandela National Stadium from February 14–16, 2025, is being held under the theme Farming as a Business, Value Addition, and Co-operatives.”

Mandela Group also offers attendees the opportunity to win substantial prizes.
