The month of November in the Runyankore dialect is known as “Musenene” literally meaning the month of grasshoppers but dealers in  this business had counted losses since grasshoppers had not been seen anywhere in the streets of Mbarara city.

Today morning was a joyful one on the side of the business people and those who eat them after vehicles carrying sacks of grasshoppers converged on Buremba Kakoba road (roundabout). People persevered through a heavy downpour to get themselves grasshoppers after spending a long time waiting.

John Ahimbisibwe a grasshopper businessman who brought them in Mbarara has told newvision that they managed to get these grasshoppers from Kisoro, Bundibugyo, Bwera Kasese, Ishaka and Rukungiri and Lyantonde where they have collection centres.

“We have been worried about the loans we acquired to venture into this business, even last year we did not harvest enough grasshoppers so we were still having loans from last year. This year is likely to be not good because we are not certain whether grasshoppers are going to continue coming” said Ahimbisibwe.

He said that since the month began, their electricity bills have abnormally accumulated yet there was no business.

Ahimbisibwe said that the biggest sack which they call Embuzi in their business language goes for shs 200, 000, half of the sack goes for shs 150, 000 and then its quarter goes for shs100, 000. The green cavera goes for shs10, 000 and the black one goes for shs20, 000.

A big cup goes for shs.5000 and the small one goes for shs3000.
