The agriculture ministry, has given Church of Uganda’s Madi-West Nile Diocese a tractor.
The donation to the diocese was handed over on Friday, February 10, 2023, and it is expected to transform the lives of Christians in the diocese.
Madi-West Nile Diocese bishop the Rt. Rev. Charles Collins Andaku said the tractor is expected to transform the lives of the communities.
He said the diocese, which is now over 54 years old, has never seen such a miracle and, therefore, the tractor should be a transformation factor for the Christians in the diocese.
Madi-West Nile diocesan secretary, Godfrey Nasser, said in the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the diocese and the agriculture ministry, the tractor should be given out for hire and as a diocese, they want to improve the lives of the community.
Arua Central MP Jackson Atima said the diocese can use the tractor to increase the income levels at the diocese by hiring the tractor at a higher rate for other communities’ members and at a lower rate for church leaders.
“We can have a committee to manage this tractor. Hire [it out] at a higher rate for other people and subsidised rate for the clergy. So, when such support from the Government comes, the clergy should be considered and this can only happen when the Church lands are secured,” Atima said.
