Residents in Bugweri district have welcomed the donation of a tractor from government saying it will bosst their agricultural activities.
The tractor was delivered and launched by the Minister of State for Microfinance, Haruna Kasolo, amidst excitemet among residents at Naigombwa Seed SS as the district concurrently celebrated Women’s Day, last Friday, March 24.
Kasolo urgyed the residents in the area to use it efficiently by digging large farms to fight hunger and poverty in their respective families
Kasolo said that high food production in families is the only crucial solution to fighting hunger and poverty which most families in Busoga sub region experiences
‘‘I know you have been having challenges to access a morden equipment like this this since its expensive to buy and hire ,its now here use it and boost production since its for free’’ Kasolo said
He later gave out sh2m as initial starting fuel and promised sh100m to the Bugweri Women Leaders Cooperative SACCO to boost them in their saving for development
The Woman MP, Racheal Magoola, who lobbied the tractor from the Ministry of Agriculture said that she was prompted to lobby the farming tool as farmers were getting challenges to access modern agriculture as they could not afford to buy and hire the tool
She noted that most the farmers use hand hoes which makes it tiresome to dig large farms and ox-plough owners tend to raise prices which limits some farmers especially women to access the service.
Magoola also launched a one million donation to various women saving groups in the district termed as ‘kick poverty out Bugweri’ which she stared with Kalalu women group and promised the same support to the various saving groups for prosperity of women who are most vulenerable to poverty
The chairperson Bugweri district women leaders corpetarive SACCO who will be in charge of the tractor, Prossy Nambeko, hailed the donation as being timely since its has been a challenge to access morden farming equipment.
