Tomorrow, the 2020 best farmers are flying to the Netherlands for a week-long study tour.
They are expected to learn and emulate what is important for the transformation of their farms, such that their businesses grow beyond Uganda.
It is unique that this year, two cohorts have travelled to the Netherlands, but this is because they did not travel as earlier planned because of the COVID-19 restrictions.
This is the seventh team to be taken to the Netherlands and the sponsors are lauded for sustaining the competition this long.
These journeys and the competition at large are not for fun, but rather a tool of transformation of the agriculture sector in the country.
Since 2014, 95 best farmers have been selected across the country, out of whom 72 have travelled to the Netherlands. With the team going tomorrow, it is now 85 farmers.
The cash prize that the farmers receive is now over sh1.25b and it has also worked to improve their fortunes.
