For one to embrace agriculture, there is a need for practical experiences that is exactly what students attending the 9th annual School Farm Camp at Gayaza High school are to experience today, which is day 3 of the farm camp.
According to Patrick Muhinda the coordinator of the camp, one group will tour the NUCAFE coffee processing plant in Namanve to learn about the entire value chain of coffee till it gets to the camp.
At the KCCA Farm in Kyanja, students will be exposed to various enterprises that can be practiced at home, using small spaces including broken containers, plastics, and sacks among others.
At the One acre model farm on Entebbe road, students will learn from fellow student’s different farming practices and management of piggery and banana production.
Another group will be taken to Rono Poultry farm in Wakiso district that is keeping close to 30,000 birds to further increase the love for poultry farming among students.
Throughout the sessions, we want students to appreciate agriculture and consider it as the next source of employment,” Muhinda added.”
