The MPs have asked the Ministry of Finance to clear over sh12b meant for tea nursery bed operators in Kigezi sub-region.
This was after MP James Kaberuka complained about the delay by the government to clear the over 700 operators.
Kaberuka informed the House that although the Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary, Ramathan Ggoobi, had announced that he had released money to clear arrears, the farmers are yet to receive the money.
“I contacted NAADS to establish whether the operators’ money was paid. I was informed that the money was not there. Can the minister of Finance explain why they have delayed paying the farmers because they used bank loans and the banks want the money,” he said.
The finance state minister in charge of general duties Henry Musasizi said the Ministry was aware of the issue but will clear the money as soon as the resources are available.
“We are familiar with this case at the Ministry of Finance. We made a partial payment sometime back and we pledge to complete the payment in this financial year,” he said.
