Farmer leaders from 30 districts are undergoing training on the production, and processing of rice, sorghum, Millet, and livestock fish products.
The training is being conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and the agriculture ministry through the recently launched Phase 3 of the FAO-China South-South Co-operation (SSC) programme.
The five-day training has attracted agricultural officers from 30 districts, 100 lead demonstration farmers and producers from the districts of Butaleja, Luwero, Lira, Oyam, Tororo, Kibuku, Budaka, Bugweri, Pader, Kaliro, Adjumani, Kamuli and Iganga, among others.
With the training, it is expected that production of the selected crops, livestock and aquaculture enterprises, will increase along the value chain at the end of the three-year project.
The training that is taking place in Mbale district, will be finalised with demonstrations on how to plant some new rice varieties that will also be unveiled to farmer stakeholders on Thursday.
