Ugandan farmers have always wanted to change their lifestyles and shift from traditional farming methods to modern ones.
One way this dream is coming true is the Harvest Money Expo 2025, that is organised by Vision Group. Taking place at Namboole Stadium in Kampala, the event embodies the essential needs of farmers – especially those who aim to generate income from their produce and provide for their families – who mainly want to acquire innovative farming techniques.
Derrick Mulinde, the information technology and marketing manager of AKVO International, says subsidised new farming technologies can be a game changer for beginners.
“There are many irrigation methods such as drip and sprinkler which they can adopt,” he says.
Accordingly, solar water pumps can operate in any dry area of the country. This means that the essence of farming following dictations of seasons shall be more.

“We are spreading the gospel of ‘all-season farming methods. Due to climate change, seasons are changing, which affects the final consumers who need food at the end of the day,” he says.

Mulinde is convinced that once new, cheap farming methods are introduced into the market, it will be easier for them to embrace extensive farming. Themed Farming as a Business Innovation and Cooperatives, the event is intended to provide ideas and skills to farmers who need to advance. For instance, the Orchard Camp Farm, one of the exhibitors, have come up with fruit crops such as chico, black sapote, bahamas tree grapes, noni fruit, and American grapefruit, which expo goers will be glad to purchase and enjoy.
The expo is sponsored by Engsol Engineering Solutions, aBi International, Uganda Development Corporation (UCD) Bella Wine, Tunga Nutrition, King of Netherlands and Pepsi.
