Drier than usual conditions are expected in most parts of Uganda, according to the weekly (July 12-19, 2023) weather update for the Greater Horn of Africa released by ICPAC.
ICPAC in the weekly weather forecast states: “Drier than usual conditions expected over parts of central to northern Ethiopia, northern Eritrea, much of South Sudan, southern and central Sudan, western Kenya, and central to northern Uganda”.
ICPAC is the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre. IGAD in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. ICPAC is a Climate Centre accredited by the World Meteorological Organisation that provides climate services to 11 East African countries. The services offered by ICPAC aim at creating resilience in a region deeply affected by climate change and extreme weather.
“Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over central and eastern Sudan, central South Sudan, parts of central and eastern Ethiopia, much of Eritrea, central to southern Somalia, eastern and southern Tanzania, coastal and western Kenya, and central to northern Uganda,” states ICPAC.
Uganda is also among the countries that should expect moderate to high temperatures (20 – 32℃) expected over South Sudan, central to southern Sudan, eastern and northern Kenya, north-western and eastern Tanzania, Somalia, south-eastern Ethiopia, and central to northern Uganda.
“Mild conditions (less than 20℃) expected over southern Uganda,” ICPAC states.
