In many cases, farmers and herdsmen observe signs that alert them that an animal or group of animals is sick.
These include the following:
- Animal not eating (lack of appetite)
- Diarrhoea
- Emaciation/loss of weight/ill thrift
- Excessive salivation
- Sudden death
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Lameness
- Abortion
- Lacrimation/Bad eyes/ Blindness
- Skin changes (texture, colour)/ Swellings on the body.
- Discoloration of urine
- Enlarged abdomen
- Abnormal/strange behavior (Nervous signs)
- Anaemia (paleness of mucous membrane)
- Constipation
