As coffee continues to be the country’s leading foreign exchange earner fetching an average of $71m every month, coffee prices have continued to rise.

Robusta coffee has hit the highest recorded price with a kilogram hitting sh9,000, which is the highest in history.

Joseph Yawe, a city coffee dealer and farmer, told New Vision the price is expected to increase further.

Last year, according to Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), Robusta coffee accounted for over 80% of total exports when compared to Arabic Coffee.

According to the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), coffee market analysis report for March, Uganda exported 6.26 million 60kg bags of coffee valued at $862m (sh3.19 trillion) between August 2021 and July 2022, compared with six million bags valued at $559m for the same period the previous 12 months.

Earnings from coffee exports increased because of higher volumes exported to meet the reduced supply from major exporting countries such as Brazil and Vietnam on the international market.

Uganda has ambitious plans to triple her coffee exports by 2030.
