A dessert is a course that completes a meal. The course meal consists of sweet foods, such as cake, biscuit, ice cream and perhaps a drink such as dessert wine.
Geofrey Tumukunde, the Sous chef at Eureka Palace hotel in Ntinda, says that people eat a dessert for various reasons, which include satisfying their sweet tooth, boosting mood, and providing a sense of indulgence.
He says that a dessert can also serve as a reward, comfort food, or a way to celebrate special occasions.
‘’When it comes to choosing a dessert, opt for those made with natural ingredients, like fruits, nuts, and dark chocolate, which offer health benefits. Avoid overly processed and sugary treats. Desserts can be prepared in various ways, such as baking, grilling, or chilling, depending on the ingredients and desired texture. Some popular desserts include fruit salads, dark chocolate truffles, and baked fruit crisps,” Tumukunde says.
He says that, however, people should avoid overly processed and sugary treats because they can lead to various health problems.
He cautions that it is very essential to read labels, recognize hidden sugars, and opt for whole, nutrient-dense foods to maintain a balanced diet and support overall health and well-being.
