What is the best way of preparing a hole for planting coffee?
Mark positions where the coffee will be planted with pegs arranged in regular patterns to facilitate management.
Dig circular holes of 60 cm (2ft) in diameter and 60 cm in depth at the marked points at least three months before planting. Preparing holes before the planting season helps you to be ready for planting at the first rains.
When preparing the holes, keep the fertile topsoil separate from the subsoil. Refill the holes with topsoil about a month before planting.
Heap the soil above the ground level to allow for sinking when the soil settles and lastly make positions where the coffee plants will be planted with the pegs.
