The First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports Mrs. Janet Museveni is expected to preside over the official opening of this year’s National Agricultural Education Show in Jinja city this Wednesday, according to organizers.
The second annual event, which was first held last year, is organized by the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Sports together with the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).
Running under the theme Empowering Young Agri-prenuers, the exhibition at the Jinja agricultural show grounds, started on Monday July 10, and will close on Saturday July 15, 2023.
Kenneth Katungisa the chief executive officer of UNFFE, said the National Agricultural Education Show aims to promote, attract and retain young people in agriculture.
During the course of the week, students from various schools will participate in debates and essay writing competitions where winners shall be awarded certificates, prizes and trophies, Katungisa said.
Since Monday when activities kicked off, thousands of students from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions have been thronging the venue to learn modern agricultural technologies among other things.
Meanwhile, the 29th National Agricultural Show will be held at the same venue between August 4 and August 13th this year, Katungisa said.
It will run under the theme: ‘Fostering resilient agricultural value chains to drive agro-industrialization’ and will officially be opened by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also the patron of UNFFE on August 8, 2023. END
