Agric Ministry Launches Ferry

The long-awaited modern ferry for the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) MV Palm Uganda has finally docked at Port Bell, Luzira.

The Sh12.5 billion MV Palm Uganda arrived at Port bell at around 4:30pm on Feb 23, 2022 amidst cheers of the officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA).

The ferry will boost the transportation of palm oil from the islands.

Two years Government under (MAAIF) through the ten-year National Oil Palm Project (NOPP) with funding from (International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), contracted Songoro Marine Transport Limited of Mwanza, Tanzania to design and build and delivers a ferry easy transportation of people, goods and services between Buvuma Island and the mainland at Kiyindi landing site with an aim of rural transformation

Speaking after ferry docked at Port Bell, Richard Katende, the Country Manage Songoro Marine said the ferry is unique with roll off on both sides, has the capacity of 519 passengers seated and 230 tones

‘’It has also four engines with safety equipment and can voyage 24 hours  without stopping ‘’said Katende
