The much-anticipated 6th Africa Tea Convention and Exhibition is set to kick off tomorrow (October 9, 2024) at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village in Rwanda.

The event, organized by the East Africa Tea Trade Association (EATTA), will run for two and a half days, bringing together global stakeholders in the tea industry, including tea producers, brokers, packers, exporters, and financial investors from over 15 countries.

With a focus on promoting sustainable tea production under the theme “Harmony in a Cup: Promoting Tea for People and Planet”, the convention will delve into various critical issues affecting the tea industry, such as climate change, human rights, and evolving consumer demands.

Sessions will include forums and exhibitions on the latest trends and technological advancements in tea production.

One of the highlights is the expected speech from Minister of State for Agriculture, Bwino Fred Kyakulaga (Kigulu County North Iganga, NRM).

Onesimus Matsiko, Chairman of the Uganda Tea Outgrowers Association, also expressed optimism ahead of the convention.

“This is an excellent opportunity to engage with key government officials in a tea-dedicated environment compared to back home where farmers often lack the audience of top decision-makers,” Matsiko said.

The convention also promises several networking opportunities, including a cocktail event and gala dinner, giving participants a chance to build relationships with industry leaders and experts.

The event is expected to attract over 500 delegates and showcase cutting-edge technologies and innovations in the tea value chain.
