Over 30 backyard gardeners smiled back home after they made a killing from the flower exhibition that was held at Lugogo UMA show grounds.

The three-day show was organized by the Uganda Tropical Plants Association (UTPA), a not-for-profit organization that brings together over 60 members involved in horticultural farming, floral arrangements and designs, landscaping and container gardening.

UTPA has existed for 16 years and advocates for a green environment according to Prossy Sekagya its chairperson.

Themed; a greener Uganda, a healthier Uganda, the exhibition was spectacular. It confirmed how Ugandans are gradually embracing backyard gardening.

People from all walks of life; male and female; middle-aged, young and retirees flocked to the show to experience and buy some plants.

There were various ornamental and edible species on display; from shrubs, ferns, succulents, climbers and spices among others.

The memorable event had something for everyone, a reason few people left empty-handed. Those who didn’t buy plants at least grabbed some garden ornaments or enjoyed the food and music. Kids too attended.

Unlike the previous exhibitions, this one was hinged on creativity and innovativeness. This saw new and renowned exhibitors showcase new products that ease gardening, making it more profitable.

One such was the low-cost automated irrigation equipment by Sprinktech. It works for even the smallest gardens on apartments.

Many people attended and exhibitors were happy to make good sales.
