According to the recently released population statistics, the country has 45 million people.

This indicates a growth of about 11 million people from the 2014 census.

This is a big opportunity for farmers, because as the human population grows, so does the need for food. The largely young population will also soon marry and have children.

Every new baby adds to the already huge demand for food across the country. Food remains the most important need for not just people, but also domesticated commercial animals, for example, chicken, pigs and cattle.

Of course, this offers an opportunity for farmers to earn more. Meanwhile, as the population grows, there is a scarcity of some foodstuff.

Scarcity has largely come up due to several factors, including poor weather during the last two seasons, but also laxity in production by farmers due to unstable prices.

Uganda is endowed with natural advantages to food production compared to her neighbours.

It is important that people wake up, utilise these advantages and grow more food, not only to improve domestic food security, but also earnings.
