The long wait is over because it has been confirmed that winners of the 2020 Best farmer`s competition will travel to the Netherlands on October 7th, 2023. This was confirmed by the sponsors and preparations for the trip have started. They will return on October 7th.
The Best farmers’ competition is organised by Vision Group with sponsorship from the Embassy of the Netherlands, dfcu Bank, KLM Airlines and Koudjis Nutrition BV. Ten Winners share sh150m plus a fully paid study tour of the Netherlands. Due to COVID-19 restrictions however, the 2019 and 2020 winners did not travel on schedule. In June, the 2019 farmers had their tour, leaving only the 2020 group.
Lukia Otema, Country Manager KLM also said the Royal Dutch Airlines were ready to fly the farmers to Netherlands, because compared to the past two years when the airline sector was affected by COVID 19 restrictions, it was now picking up. According to Josephat Byaruhanga, embassy of the Netherlands who will lead the team, KLM has already booked the tickets for the farmers as other preparations to host them in Netherlands
KLM, one of the largest air freighters in the world, has already issued tickets for the 2020 winners. The travelling farmers include Phillip Kalera (Gomba) Immaculte Akullo (Lira) Peter Matsiko (Kabale), Jacent Namyalo (Ssembabule), Moreen Nyakato (Kabarole), Bob Kagoro (Kabarole), Gloria Lwamafa Karungi (Wakiso), Micheal Opiyo Kadogo (Gulu), Samuel Kange (Namayingo), Joseph Munerya (Kapchorwa), Ben Amodoi (Katakwi), Bernard Obaa (Arua) and Ssebayiga from Buikwe.
