Coffee Earns Uganda Sh3.1 Trillion

Coffee exports in May were 453,169 bags of 60kg each and fetched the country a total of $73.26m (Sh271b), according to Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA).

The coffee earnings for May are higher than the earnings for the previous two months. In April the earnings were $59.9m and in March the country earned $71.5m from coffee exports.

UCDA has explained in the statement released today (Friday) in the morning that the coffee exported in May comprised 328,151 bags of Robusta coffee valued at $45.6m and 125018 bags of Arabica coffee valued at $27.6m.

UCDA noted that coffee exports the last 12 months from June 2022 to May 2023 have fetched the country a total of $839m (Sh3.1trillion)

Coffee is the second leading foreign exchange earning export for the country after gold which currently fetches more than $200m every month.
