Three Membership Based Organizations have signed a five-year joint initiative to address coffee production while taking care of pollinators.
These include Uganda Coffee Federation (UCF) Uganda Coffee Farmers Alliance (UCFA and The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organization
According to a statement issued after the signing of the agreement on Monday, the organizations will support farmers to diversify their incomes through the selected enterprises, promote climate resilient farming practices and also create platforms for business networking, among others.
The statement adds that globally the world is facing an increase in climate change and environmental degradation with a direct negative impact on coffee production in spite of increased acreage of land under coffee production.
Also, the destruction of vital habitats for birds and insect pollinators coupled with pests & diseases has exacerbated the coffee production and productivity challenges.
