The minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and animal industry, Frank Tumwebaze has asked Scientists to produce research that can easily be understood by the farmers due to the small holder farmers.
“Why should we produce research and it is kept on the shelves because the farmers
Tumwebaze said currently there is limited space to carry out meaningful agriculture to support the population.Tumwebaze said that is why the government has invested several projects to increase value addition using modern farming methods with increased production.
He made the remarks during the ASAREKA Agricultural conference under the “Theme building resilient food systems to feed Africa for Generations” at Speke resort Munyonyo Kampala May 2023.
He said many farmers have been affected due to climate change and environment urging that the researcher should conform their research based on the current environment.
He revealed that is why all Director General of Agricultural Institutions were made to be part of ASAREKA so that they can share the research from any member country to increase food production and fight food insecurity in Africa.He said save time if research is shared to fight diseases and increase high yields of the crops.
The ASAREKA Council Patron of ministers during the meeting signed a communique to ensure African countries become self- reliant from importing food from the European markets.
