Uganda will host an agricultural ministerial conference at Speke Resort Muyonyo Kampala May 17-19, 2023 to discuss issues of food resilience.
The conference is organised by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, in conjunction with the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), and the Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO).
ASARECA is a sub-regional inter-governmental organisation of the National Agricultural Research systems of 14 member countries which include; Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan, among others.
According to Fred Bwiino Kyakulaga, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries who was speaking at a media briefing today at the Uganda Media Centre, the conference will gather over 300 delegates from 14 member countries.
“The conference will bring together researchers from the 14 member countries to share and promote knowledge and innovations to solve common challenges facing agriculture,” Kyakulaga said.
According to Kyakulaga, ASARECA has invested over sh63b in Uganda to catalyse agricultural transformation in the country.
He invited Ugandan farmers to attend the conference and exhibit the various agricultural products that they produce and also to get knowledge from the experts that will be at the conference.
During the conference, Dr. Enock Warinda, the Executive Director of ASARECA, said that the secretariat will discuss pertinent issues that affect farmers.
“Farmers will benefit from the flow of knowledge and information to enhance the adoption of technological innovations in agriculture that increase productivity and commercialization in the sector,” Warinda said.
