Some of the children who attended the Harvest Money Expo share their experience.

Einstein Ssentongo, a Primary Seven pupil at MST

I am 12 years old and was proud to have stood in front of hundreds of Harvest Money expo goers and taught them how to make the lactic acid bacteria. Today, I taught the participants how to make lactic acid bacteria. This is used to suppress bad smells from bird sheds and used to make yoghurt.

Trained by my director, Dr. Naluyima, you put uncooked rice and two litres of rain water in a jug, cover the jar with handmade paper and leave in a shade for 48 hours.  Lactic acid bacteria will propagate at 23-25°C, and the solution will start to smell sour.

I felt so good leaving out that room while I had answered all the questions asked by the attendees. It was such a good experience for me and I will attend this school having acquired knowledge on almost everything about Agriculture.

Grace Nakato, Primary Six pupil

I joined MST Junior School in 2021 while I was in Primary Five. Today, I know everything about piggery, banana planting, cattle keeping, goat farming and among others.

I trained the audience on how we attract houseflies to lay eggs which will eventually turn into maggots. We now sell these eggs to many farmers at our farm which are used as feeds for pigs, fish and pigs.

As the team leader of my group, we have mainly focused on how to add value in each product the animals produce because we believe that many people farm to feed and not make any money from it.
