The main variety grown are oyster mushrooms, which scientists say have medicinal and nutritional properties.
Dr Julian Abeso, a paediatrician physician at Mbale Hospital, says the mushroom has various nutrients, including Vitamins B1, B2 and D.
“Mushrooms contain zinc and selenium that are key in strengthening the body defence line against ailments of cancer,” she says.
Dr Assen Kamwesige, a gynaecologist and obstetrics physician at Mbale Hospital, says among the vital bodily value mushroom recipe hold is folic acid.

“During the early stages of pregnancy, folic acid is important as it helps to prevent birth defects on the baby’s brain and spinal code system,” she says.
