The Dairy Development Authority (DDA) under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries has responded to false allegations made against the government agency for poor supervision of Ugandan markets that sell unsafe milk products to consumers.
The DDA executive director, Dr. Michael Kansiime, said the institution always encourages the general public to always buy and consume milk from licensed facilities and encourages dairy processing industries to observe dairy standards and regulations.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Kansiime said the institution receives regulatory audits that show clearly the number of registered dairy businesses, milk handling premises that have been inspected and the regulations to be followed when operating milk processing premises.
“We spend 70% on training the farmers and dairy operators to produce clean milk, said Kansiime, in a press statement at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
