When chicks first hatch it is advisable to use a small container, usually made of plastic or a wooden crate lined with newspaper and sawdust.
However, using newspapers may create straggle legs. This occurs when the chicks repeatedly slip and their legs begin to split apart. If this happens repeatedly then the chick can be rendered unable to walk without slipping and this can have consequences to the rest of its health.
Treatment for straddle legs involves strapping the legs together. Using sawdust is a much better option.
Donkeys are very affectionate animals and enjoy the companionship of people. Without companions they get very depressed. The life expectancy of donkeys is 25 to 35 years of age. However, donkeys in third world countries seldom live over 10 years. Donkeys are used to guard goats and sheep and to protect cows while calving. They hate canines. Donkeys are able to carry up to 30% of their body in live load and 20% in dead weight. The donkey’s favourite pastime is rolling.
